 NoBe Glow Weekly Updates 8/30/2021: Back to School for MCPS, Pool open until Labor Day, Druid Park Wilson Faucette - Garrett Park Estates, MD - 8/30/2021 - 18:15 Silver Creek Middle School Photo: Wilson Faucette The MCPS School Year Has Started Today was the first day in school for hundreds of thousands of students in public schools across Montgomery County. MCPS Schools are open regularly at 100% capacity, however schools have had to be very innovative in order to protect students and staff from the coronavirus. Schools are utilizing outdoor spaces as much as possible for learning and lunches. Students are also sitting in assigned groups to help with contact tracing when that becomes necessary. MCPS has reported a couple outbreaks in schools over the last month or so, notably at Quince Orchard High School. Photo: Wilson Faucette School Starts Next Week Next Monday is the first day of school for many students across Montgomery County. Coronavirus cases are very high in the county at the moment, but Montgomery County says that they will stay with their plan of 5 days of in-person instruction at 100% capacity unless the state orders them to change their plan. It is not going to be a completely normal school year, however. Masks will be required for everybody in the building, regardless of vaccination status.  NoBe Glow Weekly Update 8-9-2021 Wilson Faucette - Garrett Park Estates, MD - 8.9.2021 Masks Now Required Indoors In Montgomery County Masks are now required indoors in Montgomery County for everybody, regardless of vaccination status. The  county council acting as the board of health unanimously voted to reinstate this masking mandate on August 5th. The new mandate went into effect on August 7th when Montgomery County had reached the CDC's definition of an area of substantial spread. See   This Article Rising COVID Cases Before Start of School Year Coronavirus Cases have rapidly risen in Montgomery County over the past few weeks. The 7 day average per 100,000 residents is at 68.1 which is up from 3.81 in late June 2021. This comes as the Delta variant is spreading across the US, the CDC has issued updated guidance on masking, and school is about to start.  Masks Required Indoors In Montgomery County Wilson Faucette - Montgomery County, MD - 8.7.2021 - 17:51 Photo: Montgomerycountymd.gov Masks Are Now Required Indoors Regardless of Vaccination Status On Thursday, August 5, 2021, the Montgomery County Council voted unanimously to require masks indoors in public spaces for all Montgomery County Residents, whether or not they have taken their shot . This was decided to go into effect on Saturday the 7th at 12:01 AM. This means that this new board of health regulation is now in effect and you now must wear a mask indoors in public spaces in Montgomery County.  Decision Based On Substantial Spread of COVID-19 In County According to Dr. Gayles Dr. Travis Gayles is the County Health Officer. MCPS To Require Masks in The Fall The MCPS Board of Education decided that everyone in MCPS facilities will be required to wear an appropriate face covering this fall, regardless of vaccination status.  Masks To Be Required For All In MCPS Schools This Fall, Regardless Of Vaccination Status Wilson Faucette - Montgomery County, MD - 7.29.2021 - 13:03 Video: MCPSTV Everybody Will Have To Wear A Mask In MCPS Schools This Fall Earlier this week, the MCPS Board of Education voted to require masks for all students, staff, and visitors in MCPS schools this fall. In their July 28 Community Update , MCPS said that, " All MCPS students, staff and visitors will be required to wear face coverings in school buildings this fall, regardless of vaccination status." The board cites recommendations by the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics to explain their decision.
