She had served the longest term on the Board of Education in MCPS history, as she was first elected in 1998. In their Press Release , the Board of Education talks about how strong of an advocate Pat O'Neil was for the students. Board President Brenda Wolff says, “We have lost an impassioned advocate for children, students and our community. Mrs. O’Neill leaves a legacy of educational excellence that will guide our work for years to come.” Pat O'Neil served on the Board of Education right up until her death. NoBe Glow Weekly Updates 8/30/2021: Back to School for MCPS, Pool open until Labor Day, Druid Park Wilson Faucette - Garrett Park Estates, MD - 8/30/2021 - 18:15 Silver Creek Middle School Photo: Wilson Faucette The MCPS School Year Has Started Today was the first day in school for hundreds of thousands of students in public schools across Montgomery County. MCPS Schools are open regularly at 100% capacity, however schools have had to be very innovative in order to protect students and staff from the coronavirus. Schools are utilizing outdoor spaces as much as possible for learning and lunches. Students are also sitting in assigned groups to help with contact tracing when that becomes necessary. MCPS has reported a couple outbreaks in schools over the last month or so, notably at Quince Orchard High School.
