MCPS Board Member Patricia O'Neil Died Tuesday

Board of Education Member Patricia(Pat) O'Neil died on Tuesday. She had served the longest term on the Board of Education in MCPS history, as she was first elected in 1998. In their Press Release, the Board of Education talks about how strong of an advocate Pat O'Neil was for the students. Board President Brenda Wolff says, “We have lost an impassioned advocate for children, students and our community. Mrs. O’Neill leaves a legacy of educational excellence that will guide our work for years to come.”

Pat O'Neil served on the Board of Education right up until her death. According to the Bethesda Beat, she was scheduled to attend a committee meeting on Tuesday, which was cancelled. 

According to MCPS, Mrs. O'Neil was a graduate of Walter Johnson High School. They say that services have not been planed yet, but they will be in a couple of days. MCPS wants to offer their deepest condolences to the O'Neil family.

The  county council acting as the board of health unanimously voted to reinstate this masking mandate on August 5th. The new mandate went into effect on August 7th when Montgomery County had reached the CDC's definition of an area of substantial spread.
