School Starts Next Week

Next Monday is the first day of school for many students across Montgomery County. Coronavirus cases are very high in the county at the moment, but Montgomery County says that they will stay with their plan of 5 days of in-person instruction at 100% capacity unless the state orders them to change their plan. It is not going to be a completely normal school year, however. Masks will be required for everybody in the building, regardless of vaccination status. The county has come out with a new reopening guide explaining some of what school will look like this year, which can be found on their website(mcpsmd.org)

Storms, Rain, and Floods

It has rained almost every day in Montgomery County during the past few weeks. Storms have caused falling trees, power outages, and widespread flooding. On Friday, portions of Beach Drive and Rock Creek Trail were closed on Friday due to flooding.

The weather for this week coming up looks pretty good with little rain, according to the National Weather Service(NWS). However, Friday and into this weekend, the NWS says that there are possibilities of isolated thunderstorms and flooding. Temperatures are in the low-mid 90's all week. The NWS expect the heat index to exceed 100 degrees on Thursday.

Beach Drive From Kensington Parkway to Old Spring Road Closes On August 30 For Bridge Replacement, Reopens Next June

Beach Dr. in Kensington will close from August 30 until next June so that the bridge over Silver Creek can be replaced. You may have noticed that the right turn lane off Kensington Pkwy has already been removed. According to the Montgomery County Press Release, they are rerouting the Rock Creek Trail to a new pedestrian bridge, so pedestrian traffic shouldn't be impacted for very long.
