Masks Now Required Indoors In Montgomery County

Masks are now required indoors in Montgomery County for everybody, regardless of vaccination status. The  county council acting as the board of health unanimously voted to reinstate this masking mandate on August 5th. The new mandate went into effect on August 7th when Montgomery County had reached the CDC's definition of an area of substantial spread. See This Article

Rising COVID Cases Before Start of School Year

Coronavirus Cases have rapidly risen in Montgomery County over the past few weeks. The 7 day average per 100,000 residents is at 68.1 which is up from 3.81 in late June 2021. This comes as the Delta variant is spreading across the US, the CDC has issued updated guidance on masking, and school is about to start. According to MCPS press releases, there were two cases of COVID at Walter Johnson HS reported between July 30 and 31. Bethesda Beat has also reported that MCPS may require staff to get vaccinated.

MCSL Season Over

MCSL concluded their season this year with their Individual All Star Meet. 3 Garrett Park Swimmers participated in the meet. MCSL was unable to host their All Star Relay Meet this year due to Coronavirus.

Stillwater and Orleans Repaved

Stillwater Ave. near Cushing and Orleans, and Orleans Way appear to have been repaved. This came after work had been done on the road there in recent months.

 WJ Virtual Graduation Took Place Today At 9AM Wilson Faucette - Garrett Park Estates, MD - 5.4.2021 - 13:12 Photo: WJ Virtual Graduation  Walter Johnson High School Graduation Walter Johnson High School had their graduation ceremony this morning at 9:00 AM. They had an in-person ceremony at Walter Johnson High School's Stadium, streamed on the regular Montgomery County Local TV Channels and online. They also put together a virtual graduation commencement video which can be viewed on youtube .  According to the Montgomery County Public Schools Graduation Schedule , the speaker at the graduation today was social studies teacher Mr. Delello.  The Walter Johnson Principal posted images and videos from the graduation on the @WJPrincipal Twitter account . In the pictures below, you will be able to see different angles of the building from different days. There are portable offices set up. The Woodward building is located on Old Georgetown Road in between Edson Lane and Tuckerman Lane. It was home to Tilden Middle School for many years, after having been Woodward High School.
