Joseph Bostic Named As MCPS Teacher of The Year


Joseph Bostic, Jr. is a teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown, Montgomery County. On April 28, Bostic was named the MCPS Teacher of The Year, meaning that he will go on to compete for the title of Maryland Teacher of The Year. He is featured in this MCPSTV video.

3 Finalists for Teacher of The Year

The finalists for the title of MCPS Teacher of The Year were Bostic( A math teacher, team leader, and content specialist ) from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Sara Kopf( First Grade teacher ) from New Hampshire Estates Elementary School, and Patricia Richards ( Science Teacher ) from Walter Johnson.

Who is Joseph Bostic?

Mr. Bostic is a math teacher, content specialist, and 8th grade team leader at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. However, there are many things that make him an incredible teacher. According to MCPS, Bostic is:
  • A fierce student advocate, who can be described by those who interact with him as patient, caring, and an inspirational leader. 
  • Coworkers say that he is hard-working, relentless, and creative.
Bostic has:
  • Developed a plan that led to a large reduction of trauncies in his school.
  • Been an athletic coach, supporting his team with motivation and life lessons.
  • Been an electrical engineer, and uses that as a teacher to recruit new teachers from STEM backgrounds.
  • Worked to increase the diversity among staff.

Prize for Teacher of The Year Finalists

According to MCPS, all of the three finalists will receive $2,000 from the Greenblatt Education fund, which also named the three finalists. The school system also says that they will receive a cash prize from the MCPS Educational Foundation. Mr. Bostic will go on to compete for the Maryland State Teacher of The Year.

 NoBe Glow Weekly Update 8-9-2021 Wilson Faucette - Garrett Park Estates, MD - 8.9.2021 Masks Now Required Indoors In Montgomery County Masks are now required indoors in Montgomery County for everybody, regardless of vaccination status. The  county council acting as the board of health unanimously voted to reinstate this masking mandate on August 5th. The new mandate went into effect on August 7th when Montgomery County had reached the CDC's definition of an area of substantial spread. See   This Article Rising COVID Cases Before Start of School Year Coronavirus Cases have rapidly risen in Montgomery County over the past few weeks. The 7 day average per 100,000 residents is at 68.1 which is up from 3.81 in late June 2021.
