MCPS To Require Masks in The Fall

The MCPS Board of Education decided that everyone in MCPS facilities will be required to wear an appropriate face covering this fall, regardless of vaccination status. In their community update, MCPS cited the rise in cases, not everyone being eligible for a vaccine, and recommendations from Federal and Local Health Administrations and Organizations. See our article on this topic.

COVID-19 Case at WJ

MCPS released a Community Notification on Friday, July 30, saying that an individual who was present at Walter Johnson High School on Thursday the 29th tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The notification says that individuals who were in close contact with the positive test were notified and advised to quarantine. This comes as cases are rapidly rising across the county and nation.

COVID-19 Cases Rise Across County, State, Country

Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the United States. In Montgomery County, the last time cases were as high as they are now was in May. Cases are rising rapidly still, though. On July 29, 61 new cases were confirmed according to the New York Times. In Maryland, and the United States, COVID-19 cases are also rising. The headline of a county press release on July 30 reads,

"Rising Number of COVID-19 Cases May Prompt Reinstating Mask Mandate in Montgomery County Board of Health to Meet Next Week."

If the county does reinstate mandates, will that be enough to get the virus back under control before school begins?
