MCPS Sends Out A Community Update
MCPS sent out a community update on May 19. In their update, they explain how the recent lifting of restrictions in Montgomery County will affect how MCPS operates this year. The changes to MCPS are not very significant.
Changes to Masking for Athletes and Spectators
Based on the update from Montgomery County, athletes and spectators no longer have to wear a mask outside. They also removed capacity limits outdoors, while indoor ones are at 250. In school, students will still have to wear masks for at least the rest of the year.
Changes to Graduation Capacity For High Schoolers, Not Middle/Elementary Schoolers
MCPS has increased the number of tickets each senior will be allocated for their graduation ceremony. The increase is based on the size of the school's outdoor stadium, where the graduations will be held. Despite the increase for High School Graduation Capacity, MCPS is still recommending that Middle and Elementary Schools hold virtual celebrations, with the possibility of some school specific in-person traditions, such as a driving parade.
